A note released by the clinic said “any breach” of patient information would be subject to an internal investigation and disciplinary action would be taken if necessary.

The London clinic, often used by the royal family precisely to guarantee confidentiality, also said it had “no place” for those who deliberately breach the trust of patients or colleagues.

Statement by the police

“We are not aware of any referral to the Metropolitan Police at this time. The Metropolitan Police Service told Sky News when speaking about a request to review reports from a London clinic involving a member of its staff who tried to access the Princess of Wales’ private medical records while she was undergoing treatment. England’s Health Secretary, Maria Caulfield, announced that police had been “asked to verify” whether staff at a private hospital had tried to obtain Kate Middleton’s confidential documents.
