Mafia in Bari, the first verification by the Ministry for the dissolution of the Magistrate. Decaro: “An Act of War”

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi communicated mayor OF Bari, Antonio Decaroappointment access fee called to evaluate the hypothesis dissolution municipality for mafia. Step after surgery”Internal code“, leading to more than 140 arresting and put under the lens of justice the alleged exchange of votes between some political representatives and clan cities. After the lightning attack, the center-right MPs asked for verification of the possible dissolution.

Mayor’s reaction

“Today an act of war was signed against the city of Bari. Minister Piantedosi informed me by phone that an access commission has been appointed to verify the hypothesis of the dissolution of the municipality. This clockwork act – writes Decaro – follows a request by a group of Apulian centre-right MPs, including two deputy ministers of the government, and refers to the vote-swapping investigation in which, among others, the lawyer Giacomo Olivieri and his wife, a city councilor elected from the centre-right, were arrested order”. It refers to councilor Maria Carmen Lorusso, who was elected as a center-right and only then went to the majority.

“Regardless of the words of the anti-mafia district prosecutor, who literally said in a press conference: “The city administration of Bari has been able to respond to organized crime in recent years”, the same individuals who in 2019 brought two councilors arrested for voting to the city council exchange – attacks to Mayor Decaro – they are now pushing for the dissolution of a large regional capital, which has never happened in Italy, not even at the time of the Mafia Capitale investigation. It is a very serious act that aims to sabotage the normal course of the democratic life of the city Barijust (coincidentally) on the eve elections. Elections that the center-right in Bari has been losing for twenty years in a row. For whom they are trying to find a candidate and who wants to win this time by fixing the match.’

Documents

“It is true that it is known that in recent days I have been asked to collect all the activities carried out by the municipality of Bari against organized crime. Well – continues Decaro – yesterday at 12 o’clock the prefect received a voluminous documentation consisting of 23 files and thousands of pages, which contains the activities that the municipality has carried out in recent years against organized crime. From the speed with which the news of the appointment of the Commission arrived, it is clear that no one bothered to read these documents. The political pressure of the center-right Bari was therefore more valuable than facts, complaints, documents and testimonies. This is a shameful and very serious thing that goes against the city, against the honorable citizens, against the mayor. I will oppose this attack with my whole being, as I opposed the mobsters of this city. If this was the last act of my political experience. I will not be silent. I will not stand by in silence at this operation to pervert the truth and destroy the reputation of sound administration and the entire city.”

Then a footnote that is itself a declaration of war: “If the Ministry authorities do not see fit to read the documents I have supplied, I will have them read by the citizens. And as always, I’ll let them be the judge.”

Solidarity with Decaro

“Solidarity with Mayor Decar, who defends his city,” says Matteo Ricci, National President of ALI, Italian Local Autonomies, Mayor of Pesaro and Coordinator of Dem Mayors. “In recent years, Decaro and his administration – he continues – have been a bulwark against illegality, Decaro has also personally paid for it, with an escort he has been forced to have for years precisely because of the battles against illegality that he has waged. in his city. Piantedosi’s act is not that of the Minister of the Interior, but that of someone who takes party orders from the Puglia MPs who have no chance of winning the elections in Bari and who use the Ministry of the Interior to create confusion and harm the citizens of Bari. The Minister of the Interior is not fit to fulfill the role he plays, he plays politics instead of guaranteeing the rules, as is his duty.”

“What happened today marks a point of no return in the political history of our country. Never before has a government or an interior minister dared to use their administrative powers to fight political opponents and win an electoral contest. What Minister Piantedosi did against the municipality of Bari is an act of unprecedented violence and seriousness”: so the Apulian deputies of the Democratic Party Marco Lacarra, Ubaldo Pagano and Claudio Stefanazzi.

“It is clear to everyone – they continue – that there is not even a shadow of a single assumption to verify the hypothesis of the demise of the municipality. The minister showed that he blatantly ignored the words of the anti-mafia district attorney Rossi when he publicly stated that the city administration had nothing to do with the disputed facts and had always been stubbornly engaged in the fight against organized crime. Not only that, Piantedosi chose to completely ignore the facts: namely, that the councilors arrested as part of the investigation were not elected from lists supporting the current majority, but from lists of opposition to the city government. In short, the only voice he wanted to listen to and serve was that of the center-right MPs who asked for and received political credentials from the municipality. The timing of what is happening confirms the bad faith with which this absurd decision was made. A few months from the elections, in which the center-right would suffer a crushing defeat for the fifth time in twenty years. At this moment, in the face of the seriousness of the act, which has nothing to do with our democracy and which is actually its exact negation, we ask for the direct intervention of the president of the republic. All this happens only in autocratic regimes, i.e. in the models that Piantedosi and the center-right are obviously inspired by. And we cannot tolerate this happening in a democracy like ours.”
